There is ongoing trend of working adults who are choosing to go back to school and earn a degree or advanced degree. In some cases, they simply need certificate classes so they can move up in their careers. However, working adults don’t have the free time or lack of responsibility that young adults have. Therefore, working adults are enrolling in droves to pursue distance learning classes. One of the leaders in distance learning is Kaplan University. This online college has both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs and is the only online university that is fully accredited.
The basis of Kaplan is that it is an online university that not only offers degrees, but career diplomas as well. The college is also highly affordable. So coupled with the convenience of distance learning and affordable tuition, Kaplan is a popular choice for working or traveling adults.
Kaplan started as three different colleges. There was Kaplan College, American Institute of Commerce and Quest College. It was in 1937, that Kaplan University was founded. It started as a regular brick and mortar school. Over the years, Kaplan combined its programs and added campus throughout the United States. Then eventually it went one to expand into an online campus as well.
There are many programs offered through Kaplan. Students can study criminal justice, health sciences, technology, education, business, nursing, and arts and sciences. Students can go for their Associates, Bachelors and Masters Degree. And there are also certificate programs for those in the field of information technology, business and healthcare.
Just like with any other university, financial aid is available for students who need assistance in paying for their education. There is also a Kaplan University scholarship that students can apply for. The fees for the degree programs are like traditional schools, in that they are based on per credit hour. The most expensive programs are Masters of Science in business administration. While the Master programs in education, criminal justice and nursing are the least expensive.
There is a wide range of study materials for students and these include software, books, online quizzes, online seminars, discussion forums and a vast online library. Not only do students get to take part in interactive seminars with instructors and classmates, they also receive continual one-on-one feedback from their instructors and classmates. The discussion boards has meetings that give direction to students plus help them with homework and class assignments. Additionally, students follow along with online learning journals throughout the duration of their program. These journals work as a source of classroom discussion and place to record research projects.
Kaplan is one of the harder online distance learning schools to get into. Those entering a graduate program are required to have a Bachelor’s degree from a accredited university and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. For students looking to enter an undergraduate program, they must have a high school diploma or GED.
Kaplan receives their accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Kaplan is also a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
