The admission procedure is a little more involved than other online schools. The requirements are a bit stricter, and this is to ensure that all prospective students are clear on their educational requirements.
A number of academic testing scores are taken into consideration, as well as a prospective students already existing educational background. Of all the online schools, this university seems to have a much stronger admissions screening process, and this prevents students who may not be ready for the online learning experience from taking on debt and possibly dropping.

Financial aid is available to those who qualify, however, Capella University offers a fee reduction program, and once a prospective student has been through one of those, then, the remainder of the tuition and fees go through grants and scholarships, as well as federal student loan programs, or private loan programs. The university is very committed to ensuring that all students who require financial aid fully understand the process and are carefully guided towards those options that will benefit them most.

The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission on a regional basis and is also a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The university was one of the first online schools to take part in the Academic Quality Improvement Program through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Because of this, the university is expected to review its performances each year, as opposed to the usual ten year review.

The university also has an extensive career guidance program, as well as having all programs focused on career improvement and readiness. All of the courses offered by Capella University are structured so that the program is very career oriented.
